Celebrating Canada's History
We’re also celebrating the importance of the history of Western Canada with the launch of the The Last Best West Series. These reference books and historical novels appeal to children, ages 8 to 11.

The first novel Friends in a New Land

  • takes place in 1902 in what is now Alberta
  • shows the pleasures and hardships of pioneer life
  • comes alive through the adventures of eight-year-old Joey

The teacher’s manual for Friends in a New Land includes a novel study and social studies teaching strategies.

Four reference books provide historical information on Western Canada.
