New Land About
the Novel Friends in a New Land follows the Wright family
as they face the struggles and simple pleasures of pioneer life. The novel is
set in 1902, in what is now Alberta. It will appeal to children, ages 8 to 11.
About the Author Elaine Essien taught for
32 years, many in Alberta schools. She has been a contributor and co-author of
social studies materials in Alberta. Elaine grew up hearing stories of pioneering
from her own parents who homesteaded in Saskatchewan. She lives in Edmonton. | |
